Welcome to Spotlight on Science !

Your Dream Major Exists — But Under a Name You Won’t Recognize

👋🏻 Hello there! We’re three passionate high schoolers who teamed up to build something unique — a blog about underrepresented sciences that are just as important as the famous ones, and often even cooler!

📖 Backstory

We come from different countries where certain majors are discouraged due to limited resources, lack of mentors, or low-income potential. This has caused many to give up on their dream careers — or never even discover them in the first place.

We believe in a world where passion drives learning — not pressure.

We want to make education an accessible right, not a privilege — and make it fun and exciting along the way!

🔍 What You’ll Discover Here

  • Articles talking about neglected and demoted sciences.
  •  Their prominent impact.
  •  The "what's it like on the inside?", i.e., what a career in this field would look like.
  • We are also going to share numerous phenomena and scientific discoveries in the same fields too!
  • You will have the chance for hands-on learning!
  • A vibrant, real-time space where voices come alive. Drop your stories, reflections, or shoutouts—your perspective matters. Whether it’s a personal journey, a spark of inspiration, or a suggestion for growth, this is your platform to be heard and seen.
  • And more importantly; we are going to offer resources, YouTube channels, local initiatives, other specialized forums, textbooks and so much more to help others test-drive this science and get a headstart!
  • It will also have translations to 3 different languages (English - Arabic - Portuguese).

🌍 Why This Is Urgent

The world has seen fast scientific progress across various fields. However, marginalized communities– like most of the countries in the Middle East (Syria, Sudan, Yemen….)– still suffer from a noticeable lag in keeping up with this global progress.

According to reports by UNESCO, these countries spend only about 0.2% of their GDP on scientific research, while other countries spend more than 2%, this shows a big gap in resources and support.

Even though there are capable youth, and interest in pursuing quality education in these communities, the lack of real progress is a big challenge for ambitious young minds, and it lessens their opportunities to engage in research and innovation.

Environmental sciences/Ecology, Social sciences, international relations, astrobiology, and culture studies, are few examples of demoted sciences in suffering communities that one can’t even pursue (these are sciences that are underfunded and deprioritized). To put more emphasis on these underrepresented sciences we made this blog, where we chose different sciences to talk about.

These aren’t “soft” sciences — they’re underfunded sciences. And they need champions like you.

🎯 What We Want to Achieve

  • Help students discover their true soulmate science
  • Prevent people from picking a major just because "they didn’t know better"
  • Make education a right and a preference, not a privilege
We like to think of ourselves as matchmakers — helping students meet their soulmate of a science. 😂
