Biophysics - Introduction

🔬 Biophysics

First, we want to introduce biophysics. This field is an interdisciplinary science that applies the principles of physics to better understand biological systems, it also leads to new technologies in science and medicine. For instance, without biophysics we wouldn’t have discovered how the nervous system works and how neurons transmit signals (which was done by developing a mathematical model, and explaining how with the help of ions the body generated action potential). Later leading to modern neuroscience, neural prosthetics, and many others.

By combining biology, physics, chemistry, and mathematics, biophysics contributes to the human understanding of several processes such as:

  • How muscles contract
  • How DNA replicates and repairs
  • How proteins fold and interact… and many more!

Ignoring such an important field is a major scientific loss.

That’s why, in this blog, we share a set of fun and interesting examples and experiments related to biophysics to help explain the idea and show how it connects to our daily lives, despite that this issue has remained largely overlooked.
